Monday: 3:30-5:00 in room 1403

Tuesday: 6:00-7:15 in Mobile 1

Wednesday: 3:30-5:00 in Mobile 1

Thursday: 3:30-5:00 in room 1403

Reasons to join the Speech & Debate Team

  • You can letter in this event
  • Increased self-esteem
  • A new avenue to showcase talent
  • Meet new people from all over the state/region
  • You can letter in this event and earn an honor cord at graduation(who knew???)
  • Improve/enhance leadership skills
  • Get to hang out with Ms. Farr, Mr. Hayenga, and Ms. Bicknase on Saturdays (…that alone is enough…)
  • Many lawyers, politicians, teachers, business people, and people in entertainment have been involved with this program
  • Studies conclude that being a part of the speech & debate program is looked more highly upon by colleges than any other extra-curricular activity

 

Events Offered

DEBATE

  1.       Public Forum Debate (partners/crossfire style)
  2.       Congressional Debate (pass mock bills/resolutions through a mock congress)
  3.       Policy Debate (partners/debate same topic all year; this year’s topic is immigration)

PUBLIC SPEAKING

  1.        Original Oratory (motivational/persuasive speaking…good writers like this event)
  2.        Impromptu Speaking (given a topic and speak about it with limited preparation)

PERFORMANCE/ACTING-STYLE (theatre-like performance)

  1.        Interpretation of Drama, Humor, or Poetry
  2.        Slam Poetry (your own writing and performance)
